Dr George Marinos
Dr Marinos completed his medical degree with honours (MB BS Hons) at the University of NSW in 1982. He was a resident and a registrar at Prince of Wales and Prince Henry Hospitals and then completed his Advanced Training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Prince of Wales and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals (FRACP – 1990). Dr Marinos then worked and studied overseas at the Kings College Hospital, London for 5 years where he completed his MD thesis (1996).
In 1996 Dr Marinos began his private Gastroenterology practice in the Eastern Suburbs and founded South Eastern Gastroenterology. In 2001 Dr Marinos co-founded the Maroubra Day Surgery (now known as City East Specialist Day Hospital) and is the Chairman of its Medical Advisory Committee to this day.
In 2005 Dr Marinos founded Gastric Balloon Australia as the first specialist clinic using gastric balloons for weight loss. Under Dr Marinos’ guidance, Gastric Balloon Australia has grown to become Australia’s leading clinic in endoscopic bariatric procedures and research.
Dr Adrian Sartoretto
Dr Sartoretto completed a Bachelor of Medical Science followed by his medical degree (MBBS) with the University of Sydney, completing his studies in 2007. He undertook his residency and was a registrar at Westmead Hospital and went on to Advanced Training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Westmead Hospital, with particular focus on hepatology and general gastroenterology including functional gastroenterology and motility. During this time he was president of the Westmead RMO Association and won a number of awards for excellence in teaching and leadership.
With a strong interest in bariatric endoscopy, Dr Sartoretto joined Gastric Balloon Australia in 2015. As part of his role within the dynamic, multidisciplinary team, he has been pivotal in developing a world first programme incorporating the latest in fitness and smartphone technology to further improve safety and health and weight loss outcomes of patients. He is an investigator in trials examining the safety and efficacy of novel endoscopically-deployed devices as well as of emerging techniques in bariatric gastroenterology.
Dr David Links
Dr Links (MBBS, MS, FRACS) is an Upper GI and Bariatric surgeon with a minimally invasive surgical interest. He was awarded his medical degree with Honours from UNSW in 2002 and undertook general surgical training from 2007 to 2011, based at Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Links undertook further subspecialty training, completing a three year ANZGOSA accredited fellowship. This included extensive experience in minimally invasive foregut surgery and bariatric surgery at Concord Hospital.
Dr Links joined the GBA team in 2015, and performs laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (also known as gastric sleeve), supported by the GBA Lifestyle programme which includes our team of nurses, dietitians, psychologists and exercise physiologists, to optimize the long-term results for those people considering obesity and metabolic surgery.
